The blaze broke out just after 7 a.m. in the basement of 108 Bertron Road in Flemington, Three Bridges Volunteer Fire Company officials said.
A man on the second floor was extricated and taken to a local trauma center while additional companies responded and helped knock down the blaze, which was confined to the basement, authorities said.
“A quick aggressive fire attack and solid teamwork saved the life of a trapped occupant and contained the fire to where it started,” the department said.
Emergency crews in Readington, Raritan and Whitehouse also assisted at the scene, authorities said.
The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
